Jack Epstein was varsity head coach at Hamilton High School from 1967 to 1973; offensive coordinator at West Los Angeles College 1974-1975; varsity head coach at Narbonne High School 1976-1983; and varsity head coach at Palisades High 1984-1992.

The 122 career victories registered by Jack's teams' earned him four Los Angeles Times Coach of the Year awards, the 1980 City Championship (Narbonne High), seven League titles, and selection as co-coach in 1979 of the annual Shrine High School All-Star Game in the Rose Bowl. He was also named Coach of the Year in 1968, 1970 and 1973 by Westside local newspapers; and 1979, 1980, 1983 by South Bay local newspapers.

The 1974 West L.A. College team won the Western States Conference Championship for the first and only time in the school's history.

Among the National Football League stars coached by Epstein are: Warren Moon (Hamilton High 1972 & 1973, West L.A. 1974); Rod Martin (Hamilton 1970 & 1971); Bryan Wiley (Narbonne High 1979 & 1980; and Keyshawn Johnson 1989).
