Track & Field- 1991
All-America Steve Marcus, NCAA and Pacific-8 shotput champion, went undefeated in collegiate competition during the entire 1968 outdoor season. His success that year included the NCAA National Shotput Championship (64’1”), and a sixth place finish--the highest of any U.S. collegian--at the 1968 Olympic trials, held at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
As a UCLA freshman in 1966, Marcus set a "Brubabe" shotput record of 56' 2-3/4". In his sophomore season, he improved his distance by more than 3 1/2 inches, jumping to a 59'9-1/2" best. That year, he placed third in the Pacific-8 and fourth in the NCAA title meet.
Marcus was a member of the USA track and field team at the 1969 Maccabiah Games in Israel, and took home a gold medal for the shotput, and a silver medal in the discus event.
